There is some talk in the NYT and even Reason, with writers complaining about the Intellectual Dark Web. The Bari Weiss (NYT) article is mentioned, as is Sam Harris, where one can read:
Here are some things that you will hear when you sit down to dinner with the vanguard of the Intellectual Dark Web: There are fundamental biological differences between men and women. Free speech is under siege. Identity politics is a toxic ideology that is tearing American society apart. And we’re in a dangerous place if these ideas are considered “dark.”
These articles talk about how it is silly to claim that such popular and well followed intellectual leaders could also be “silenced”. Scott from Slate Star Codex talks about how it is possible, because the censorship is not stopping the edgy leaders, but is stopping many others*.
There is also an issue, not much discussed by Scott, about Truth.
Are there fundamental bio differences between men and women? Science says yes, tho as in all such tribal differences, individuals in the same tribe vary to a larger extent that the group averages, for most characteristics.
Is free speech under siege in the universities and/or in some corporations? Anti-conservative college riots plus dis-invitations says yes; firings over politics says yes.
Are identity politics tearing America apart? I call it tribalism, and claim that yes, it is toxic. Further, I claim it is primarily a Democratic Party strategy which is creating more sympathy, among normals, for opposing tribalism — for protection.
The fact that it’s called “Intellectual Dark Web” is funny sad, “True Light Web” would be a better term, or “Purple Web”. But no alternative is likely to gain traction unless a couple of starts promote something else (unlikely before IDW becomes the most accepted term).
PC junk is, too often, against the Truth. We need more truth about how things really are, in order to make changes that will actually improve the situations for those living in the future, too.
*Because I believe in many anti-PC truths, I hugely reduced my blogging, and even my comments. Also, I do more light, family facebook now.
